Cabling a fiber optic SFP or XFP transceiver
To cable a fiber optic SFP or XFP transceiver, do the following:
1.
Remove the protective covering from the transceiver and store the covering for
future use.
2.
Gently insert the two cable connectors (a tab on each connector should face
upward) into the port connectors until the tabs lock into place.
Cleaning fiber optic SFP or XFP transceivers
To avoid problems with the connection between the fiber-optic module port and
the fiber cable connector, IBM strongly recommends cleaning both connectors
before making this connection. In particular, dust can accumulate in either
connector and cause problems such as reducing the optic launch power.
When not using a fiber-optic port connector, make sure to keep the protective
covering on.
