Prepare to Troubleshoot Internal Components
Because of the complexity of the circuits in plasma power supplies and torches, it is necessary that
service technicians know inverter power supply theory. Refer to
on page 157. In addition to being technically qualified, technicians must do all testing with
safety in mind.
If questions or problems occur during servicing, contact the correct Hypertherm Technical Service
office shown in the front of this manual.
WARNING
ELECTRIC SHOCK CAN KILL
Turn OFF (
O
) the power and disconnect the electrical power before removing the cover
from the plasma power supply. If the plasma power supply is connected directly to a line
disconnect box, switch the line disconnect to OFF (
O
). In the U.S., use a
“lock-out / tag-out” procedure until the service or maintenance work is complete. In other
countries, follow appropriate national or local safety procedures.
Do not touch live electrical parts! Do not touch the tip of the nozzle when the system is
powered ON (
I
)! If power is required for servicing, use extreme caution when working near
live electrical circuits. Dangerous voltages inside the plasma power supply can cause
serious injury or death.
Do not attempt to repair the power PCB or control PCB. Do not cut away or remove any
protective conformal coating from these PCBs. To do so risks a short circuit between the
AC input circuit and the output circuit and may result in serious injury or death.
