DMX chain with terminator:
A DMX terminator is recommended for installations where the DMX cable has to run a long distance or
used in an electrically noisy environment (e.g. discos). The terminator prevents corruption of the
digital control signal by electrical noise. The DMX terminator is simply an XLR plug with a 120
Ω
resistor between pins 2 and 3, which is then plugged into the XLR output socket of the last device in
the chain (see illustration on page
2
).
DMX start address selection:
All DMX-controlled devices need a digital start address so that the correct device responds to the
signals. This digital start address is the channel number from which the device starts to “listen” to the
DMX controller.
You can use the same starting address for a whole group of smoke machines or enter an individual one
for every smoke machine.
When all smoke machines have the same address, all the units will “listen” to the control signal on one
particular channel. In other words: changing the settings of one channel will affect all smoke machines
simultaneously. If you set different addresses, each smoke machine will “listen” to a separate channel
number. Changing the settings of one channel will only affect the smoke machine in question.
In the case of the 1-channel
VDP1500SSM2
, you will have to set the start address of the first smoke
machine to 1, the second smoke machine to 2 (1 + 1), the third to 3 (2 + 1), and so on.

Use the smoke machine as described in
7. a) Stand-Alone Use
. Note that the series of smoke
machines can be controlled using only one remote control connected to any of the units in the series.
Switch off the smoke machine and disconnect from the mains after use.
8.
Maintenance
Switch off the smoke machine and disconnect from the mains before
performing any maintenance or cleaning operation.
The smoke machine must be cleaned after every 40 hours of use. We recommend using the
HQPower™
VDLCL
liquid to thoroughly clean the tank, feeding tube and spray nozzle. Remove or use
up all the smoke liquid inside the tank and fill half of the tank with the cleaning liquid. Reconnect the
smoke machine to the mains and switch on
[1]
. Let the smoke machine run in automatic mode (red
button
[9]
) until all cleaning liquid is used. Switch off
[1]
the smoke machine and let it cool down.
Clean the housing of your smoke machine and remote control on a regular basis. Use a moist, lint-free
cloth. Avoid using alcohol or solvents.
Store the smoke machine and remote control in a cool, dry and clean location.
There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Refer to an authorized dealer for service and/or spare
parts.

Troubleshooting
Problem Possible
solution
The smoke machine does not
work when switched on
[1]
.
Check if the power cord is correctly inserted into the mains.
Check the mains power circuit.
There is no smoke output
when the green
[10]
or red
[9]
switch is pressed.
Check if the remote control connector is correctly inserted into the
connection
[4]
.
The smoke machine hasn’t reached operating temperature yet. Wait
until the green LED
[10]
lights.
Check the liquid level inside the tank and refill if necessary.
Residue may have clogged up the output nozzle. Clean the nozzle by
gently poking the inside with a needle.
The nozzle keeps emitting
smoke even after releasing
the green
[10]
or red
[9]
switch.
Occasionally, a little smoke escapes from the nozzle after a smoke
burst. This is absolutely normal.
Immediately switch off the smoke machine and disconnect from the
mains if the smoke burst does not stop after releasing the green
[10]
or red
[9]
switch.
Remember to contact your HQPower™ service agent in case problems persist.
