Option 4: External storage
With HPE Synergy environments, external storage might be HPE Synergy D3940 storage modules in the HPE Synergy
frame or remote NAS or SAN storage. Applications and application configuration files that are not stored elsewhere can be
stored on these persistent storage volumes along with application data. The storage volume content persists so long as
the volume and volume content is not deleted.
NOTE: HPE Synergy D3940 Storage Module volumes can only be accessed by compute modules in the same frame. If the
installed applications, configuration files, or data require access from compute modules in other frames, either now or in
the future, they must be installed and stored on storage external to the frame.
The installation of new applications and configuration of existing ones must be performed manually or by using scripts.
The reason is that the storage allocation of compute modules does not occur until after the OS volume is composed. Any
scripts used for installing and configuring the application can be included in the Golden Image or created with the OS
volume personalization.
NOTE: If the storage is assigned in the server profile and the content of storage volume is not deleted, all the files for
application installation and configuration and data that is stored in persistent external storage will be available to
compute modules that are added in future.
