Firmware

This chapter describes how to update the firmware used in an HPE Apollo sx40 server.

6.1

About firmware

There are two main types of firmware in the server:

•

BIOS

•

BMC

Note:

Other add-on components (for example, HCA cards) can also contain firmware. Refer to
an add-on component’s product documentation for information about flashing this
firmware.

Firmware is provided on an FTP site by the BU Engineering team.

6.2

Flashing the BIOS

There are three methods to flash the BIOS:

•

UEFI shell

•

SUMTool

•

Web GUI

6.2.1 Using the UEFI shell to flash the BIOS

1. Copy the latest BIOS file to a USB thumb drive (does not need to be a bootable drive).

2. Copy these files to the thumb drive:

flash.nsh

afuefi.smc

fdt.smc

, and the latest

BIOS file.

3. Install the thumb drive into a rear USB port on the server.

4. Reboot the server and go into the UEFI shell.

5. Run the

map

command to locate the USB filesystem.
