Up to three IDE devices can be connected to the system board. (HP
hard disk drives are generally preset to use the cable selection feature.
This means you can plug the hard disk into the IDE data cable and you
do not need to set jumpers on the hard disk. For non-HP accessories,
refer to the storage device’s manual to check whether you need to set
jumpers, or if there are any special installation procedures.)
After Installing an IDE
Device
IDE drives are automatically detected by the
Setup
program. However,
a newly installed CD-ROM may require that you install an appropriate
device driver. Refer to your operating system documentation for details.
For information on how to obtain the latest available drivers from HP,
refer to “HP BBS Library”, on page 66.
Configuring an IDE Device After Installation
After installing a second IDE drive, or after installing any flexible disk
drive, you will need to verify that your PC has correctly identified the
new configuration, by viewing the HP Summary Screen. Refer to the
“The HP Summary Screen”, on page 38. If the configuration is not
correct, run the
Setup
program to configure the device. Refer to “Using
the Setup Program”, on page 40, for details of how to do this.
