Option ROM. ProLiant servers have hard drives and Smart Array Controller options that have

rmware
that can be updated.
It is important to update the
fi
rmware (also called “
fl
ashing the ROM”) as part of regular server
maintenance. In addition, checking for speci
fi
c
fi
rmware updates in between regular updates helps to
keep the server performing optimally. HP recommends checking for a
fi
rmware update before sending a
part back to HP for replacement.
Apply the latest
fi
rmware and software updates using the HP ProLiant Storage Server Service Release
DVD. The DVD provides software updates, upgrades, and enhancements for the storage server. The
Service Release can be ordered without cost from
. On the web site, select the
“Storage and NAS” category. The latest service release version appears in the list of available software.
Maintenance and service
This section describes some of the most common hardware maintenance and servicing procedures
for the HP ProLiant DL100 G2 Storage Server.
The server does not completely power off when the front panel power button is pressed. The power
button toggles server power between On and Standby. In Standby, the server removes power from most
electronics and drives, while portions of the power supply and some internal circuitry remain active. To
completely remove power from the system, disconnect the power cords from the server.
Chassis covers
Two covers can be removed from the top of the DL100 G2:

Front top cover
•
Rear top cover
Front top cover
CAUTION:
Remove power to the server by disconnecting the power cord before removing or installing the chassis
top covers.
To remove the front top cover:
1.
Loosen the four screws along the top edge and the two screws on both sides of the cover.
