2. Mounting the Switch
ProCurve 8100fl switches are designed to be mounted in a standard 19”
equipment rack.
If necessary, remove all blanks used to cover the slots for interface module,
management modules, switch fabric modules, fan trays, and power supplies.
Follow ESD procedures when handling these components.
W A R N I N G
A fully loaded 8108fl Switch weighs approximately 220 lb (100 kg),
and an unloaded chassis weighs approximately 94 lb (43 kg). To avoid
personal injury, plan on having at least two people available to help
move the unit into place onto the rack. TWO OR MORE PEOPLE ARE
REQUIRED WHEN MOUNTING THIS SWITCH.
A fully loaded Switch 8116fl weighs approximately 340 lb (154 kg),
and an unloaded chassis weighs approximately 137 lb (62 kg). To avoid
personal injury, plan on having at least three people available to help
move the unit into place onto the rack. THREE OR MORE PEOPLE
ARE REQUIRED WHEN MOUNTING THIS SWITCH.
C a u t i o n s
Follow these safety precautions before you move the switch:
■ ProCurve Networking recommends that you use a rack shelf (not
provided) to help mount a switch, as described in this section. If you do
not have a rack shelf, it is recommended that you use a hand crane or
other lifting device to avoid personal injury.
■
Avoid lifting the total weight of the chassis manually. However, if you must
lift the assembly, consider the total weight of the system and calculate at
least one person for every 60lb of weight to be lifted. Never lift the unit
alone.
■ Once installed, the chassis is not intended to be moved frequently. To
avoid having to move the chassis, ensure that your site has the correct
power sources and network connections (for site requirements and
guidelines, refer to
page 2-7 ).
