Before removing the heat sink, follow these steps:
1.
Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the
computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2.
Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3.
Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
4.
Remove the battery (see
) and then remove the following components:

Hard drive (see

WLAN module (see

c.
Solid-state drive (see

Memory module service cover (see

Optical drive (see

f.
Keyboard (see
g.
Top cover (see

System board (see
Remove the heat sink:
1.
Turn the system board upside down, with the front toward you.
2.
Models are available with either UMA or discrete graphics. The heat sink on discrete models includes
two additional screws. Refer to the following steps that match your model:
Discrete models:
a.
Following the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 sequence stamped into the heat sink, loosen the six Phillips
PM2.0×4.5 screws

that secure the heat sink to the system board.
