Before removing the processor, follow these steps:
1.
Prepare the computer for disassembly (
Preparation for disassembly on page 20
).
2.
Remove the access panel (
3.
Remove the fan duct (
).
4.
Remove the heat sink with fan (
Remove the processor:
1.
Pull the microprocessor retainer arm away from the processor socket (1), and then raise and rotate the
arm to its fully open position (2).
2.
Lift the processor (3) straight up and remove it.
IMPORTANT:
Do not handle the pins in the processor socket. These pins are fragile, and handling them
could cause irreparable damage. If pins are damaged, you might have to to replace the system board.
Install the heat sink within 24 hours of installing the processor to prevent damage to the processor’s
solder connections.
Reverse the removal procedure to install a new processor.
TIP:
When installing the processor, align the gold triangle printed on the corner of the processor with the
gold triangle printed on the system board next to the processor socket.
NOTE:
After installing a new processor onto the system board, update the system ROM to make sure that
the latest version of the BIOS is on the computer. You can find the latest system BIOS at:
