Installing the Support Management Station (SMS)
If you are not installing an SMS, you can skip this section and continue with the procedures in Chapter 4,
“Verifying and Booting Superdome.”
An SMS has two primary functions: to test the integrity of the electronics and to update firmware.
If the Superdome complex already has an SMS, there is no need to install another one. Only network links
need to be established between the existing SMS and the SPU cabinet you are installing.
When ordered with a Superdome system, the SMS and its peripherals come in a peripheral cabinet, racked
and cabled. To install the SMS, you have only to:
1. Install the peripheral cabinet according to the installation instructions that come with it.
NOTE
If, by special arrangement, the SMS is shipped to the customer separate from a peripheral
cabinet, refer to Appendix I, “Unpacking the SMS, Connecting Cables, and Setting SCSI
Addresses,” on page 233.
2. Power on the peripheral cabinet.
3. Power on the SMS peripherals.
4. Power on the SMS.
