Removing and replacing the primary or secondary PCIe riser
cages
CAUTION:
To prevent improper cooling and thermal damage, do not operate the server unless all PCI slots have
either an expansion slot cover or an expansion board installed.
Procedure
1.
Power down the server (
on page 36).
2.
Remove all power:
a.
Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
b.
Disconnect each power cord from the server.
3.
Disconnect any external cables that are connected to the expansion board.
4.
Do one of the following:
• Extend the server from the rack (

• Remove the server from the rack (

5.
Remove the access panel (
on page 39).
6.
Disconnect any internal cables that are connected to the expansion board.
7.
If any full-length expansion boards are installed, release the full-length expansion board retainer (

8.
Remove the PCIe riser cage.
