Installing SmartPAC 2 and WPC

Part 5 – Install SmartPAC Options

Adding or Upgrading ProCamPAC or DiProPAC

WARNING

!

ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD

Turn off and disconnect power from SmartPAC 2 and from the machinery it is connected to
before making any wiring connections. This includes power to the machine control and
motor.  Do not connect the AC power source until you are done with all other installation
procedures.

Failure to comply with these instructions could result in death or serious injury.

CAUTION

STATIC DISCHARGE DAMAGE

Ground yourself by touching a large metal object before you touch the option board or the
SmartPAC 2 board.

Failure to comply with these instructions could result in property damage.

NOTICE

THE PROCAMPAC AND DIPROPAC BOARDS ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE

It is important that you install these boards correctly.

The 8 and 16 channel ProCamPAC boards are interchangeable; and the 8 and 16 sensor
DiProPAC boards are also interchangeable.  SmartPAC 2 will recognize whether the board
is 8 or 16 channel configuration.  See Figure 2 - 42.

UPGRADING FROM ORIGINAL SMARTPAC

See “Appendix E – Upgrade from Original SmartPAC,” page 457 for instructions on
upgrading from original SmartPAC to SmartPAC 2.

NOTICE

A “low impedance” 16-channel DiProPAC (#9632904) is available. This option is necessary
when wire probes depend upon a part/strip to complete the circuit, and the part/strip is
covered with a water-based conductive lubricant.  For more information about this option,
see “Sensor Terminology” in Chapter 1.   If you decide that this is what you require, contact
Wintriss Controls immediately to order that part.  The installation procedure is the same as
the standard version.  The low impedance DiProPAC is not compatible with DSI or DSI 2
DiPro sensor interface units.
