gauge to check the
spark plug gap.
Do n ot adjust the
spark plug gap. If
the gap is o ut o f
specification
,
replace w ith a n e w
one.
R eplace th e plug if th e c e n te r e le c tro d e is ro u nd ed
as show n in th e illu stratio n .
SPECIFIED SPARK PLUG:
NGK: SIMR8A9
Check th e spark plug g ap b e tw e e n th e center and
side electrodes w ith a w ire ty p e fe e le r gauge.
M a k e sure th a t th e <t> 1.0 m m (0 .0 4 in) plug g a u g e
d oes not insert b e tw e e n th e gap.
If th e g a u g e can be inserted into th e g a p , replace th e
plug w ith a n e w one.

INSTALLATION
T h re a d each spark plug in by hand to preven t cross-
th read in g a n d tig h te n th e m w ith a spark plug
w re n c h to th e s p ecified to rq u e .
TORQUE: 16 N-m (1.6 kgf-m, 12 Ibf-ft)
C onnect th e spark plug caps.
VALVE CLEARANCE
INSPECTION
NOTE.
• A fte r th e v a lv e clearance in sp ection , inspect th e
e n g in e id le speed (p ag e 4 -1 4 ).
• Inspect and ad ju s t th e v a lv e cle a ra n c e w h ile th e
en gin e is cold (b e lo w 35°C /95°F ).
