Under-Hood (Engine Idling)
12.
Do the PCM Idle Learn Procedure
To ensure a steady engine idle, do the PCM idle learn procedure after installing the No. 21 BACKUP (10 A) fuse.
Keep in mind on this model, the engine does
not
run while the vehicle is parked. To do this procedure while parked, you
must first enter a special Maintenance Mode. To do that and the Idle learn procedure, follow these steps:
Before You Start
Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio unit, rear window defogger, lights, etc.) are turned off.
Entering Maintenance Mode
1. Without pressing the brake pedal, press the POWER button twice, then do steps 2 thru 5 within
60 seconds
.
2. With the shift lever in Park, press the accelerator pedal to the floor twice.
3. Shift to Neutral and press the accelerator pedal to the floor twice.
4. Shift to Park and press the accelerator pedal to the floor twice.
5. Press and hold the brake pedal, then press the POWER button. The vehicle is now in Maintenance Mode with
the engine running. You can now complete the idle learn procedure.
Completing the Procedure
1. Let the engine reach operating temperature (the cooling fans cycle twice).
2. Let the engine idle for
10 minutes
with the throttle fully closed.
During cold starts in Maintenance Mode, for about
60 seconds
you may hear some extra transmission noise. This is
normal. The idle learn procedure must also be done after updating or replacing the PCM. It does not need to be done
after clearing DTCs.

Charge the High-Voltage Battery
There are eight bars on the dashboard telling you the charge level of the high-voltage battery. If you see three bars or
less, you must charge the battery before vehicle delivery or putting it in storage.
To charge the battery, press the brake pedal and press the POWER button while in Park. After you see
Ready to Drive
,
press the accelerator pedal for at least
10 seconds
. The engine speed will increase and the battery will charge to a
maximum of seven bars. You only need to charge it more than three bars.
After the battery is charged, it will hold its charge for up to
1 year
. However, other maintenance items will be needed
such as 12-volt battery maintenance.
