3.12 Operation Routine Maintenance
Some components of the Ultra-High Pressure
water and vacuum systems typically require
maintenance during a water blasting shift. This
maintenance is considered routine and a compo-
nent of the water blasting process. The frequency
for maintaining the items listed in this section will
vary, depending on the quality of the clean water
supply, the overall condition of the water blasting
systems and the proficiency of the operators.
A well maintained truck, operated properly by an
experienced operator and using water from a very
clean source, will require less maintenance during
a shift than a poorly maintained truck or a truck
using poor quality clean water. Additionally, a truck
that is not being operated properly will typically
require more maintenance during a shift. Always
use operators that are well trained, the cleanest
water available and maintain the truck as recom-
mended to reduce maintenance and downtime
during each shift.
The following is a list of the components that typi-
cally require routine maintenance at the start of
a shift, during a shift, or immediately following
a shift and a brief description of the procedure.
Refer to the Lubrication and General Maintenance
section of this manual for detailed instructions for
routine maintenance items listed.
The following items typically require main-
tenance during a typical shift:
• 10 Micron Filter - The filter should be replaced
at the start of each shift and may require
replacement during the shift if poor quality
water is used and low charge water pressure
is indicated. Shutdown the system, remove the
filter clamp and cap, then remove and replace
the filter. Reinstall and tighten the cap.
• 1 Micron Filter - The filter should be replaced
at the start of each shift and may require
replacement during the shift if poor quality
water is used and low charge water pressure
is indicated. Shutdown the system, remove the
filter clamp and cap, then remove and replace
the filter. Reinstall and tighten the cap.

Purge Air From The Charge Water System -
If the clean water filters are replaced or the
operator allows the clean water tank to run
dry, air will be introduced into the charge
water system that must be purged before the
system will prime and supply clean water to
the Ultra-High Pressure pump. Follow the pro-
cedure outlined in the Lubrication and General
Maintenance section.

Blast Head Shroud Wear Boot - If the wear
boot is excessively worn or damaged, the wear
boot will need to be replaced. Shutdown the
system and raise the Hog Head. Then loosen
the shroud clamp to remove the boot. Slide the
new boot and clamp on the shroud and tighten
snug, then lower the Hog Head to the down
position with the castor wheels firmly on the
pavement. Loosen the clamp and adjust the
wear brush so it is contacting the pavement
with the bellows slightly compressed, then
tighten the clamp.
