General Procedures
Clean and Disinfect
Regular cleaning is necessary to keep the Medicraft Hill-Rom bed in a clean
and functional condition. To clean with detergent helps remove soil and
decrease the amount of microorganisms from the surface. The frequency of
cleaning must be determined by each facility.
NOTE:
Remember to rinse cloth regularly in detergent solution.
For data on cleaning and disinfection, reference these standards:
• Standards Australia AS 4187 - 1998
Cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing
reusable medical and surgical instruments and equipment, and
maintenance of associated environments in health care facilities.
• NSW Health Department Circular 95/13 June 1995 Infection Control
Policy.
Clean the bed. Use these steps:
1. Make up the detergent solution based on the manufacturer’s instructions.
2. Position the bed at a comfortable height and lower the safety siderails fully.
3. Clean the IV, self-help attachments, attendant control panel and its cord (if
the feature is included).
4. Clean the topside and sides of the mattress.
5. Fully elevate the backrest.
6. Fold the mattress and hold it forward. Clean the bottom of the mattress.
7. Clean the mattress support platform or infection control panel top.
8. If you use the infection control panels, remove a panel and rest it on the
bottom of the folded mattress. Clean the panel base and replace the panel.
9. Reposition the mattress on the backrest.
10. Clean the headboard front, rear and edges, and clean the bed base support
structures.
