FM HD Radio System
2.3.2
Boost Pro Installation
The Boost Pro amplifier is used in the FlexStar HDX HD+ systems. If retrofitting an
existing ZHD transmitter to HD+, the IP2D precorrector will be replaced by the
FlexStar BoostPro amplifier.
2.3.3
Air System And Cooling
As necessary, refer to corresponding technical documentation for information on air
handling requirements for each piece of system equipment to be installed
.
The air ventilation opening on the top the transmitter cabinet(s)/rack(s) must not be
restricted. This is an important consideration when a wall will be installed along the
front top of the transmitter. A 4" to 6" space between the top of the transmitter and the
bottom of the hood is recommended.
2.3.4
Grounding
Proper grounding systems and technique must be used in and around the facility, and
lightning protection must be in place for any type of signal entering or leaving the
facility. This section is a brief introduction to grounding practices; it is not intended to
be an all-inclusive tutorial. Refer to "Grounding Basics" later in this section for more
information.
2.3.4.1
Large Equipment Grounding Connections
For each large piece of system equipment, determine if a central ground strap
attachment point is available, typically on the floor of a cabinet. For a Single-Point
grounding system, connect to this attachment point by directly routing a 2" copper
ground strap to the grounding system common point.
2.3.4.2
Rack mounted Device Grounding Considerations
For any equipment that is installed into a rack or transmitter cabinet, a rack chassis
ground buss bar should be installed if not provided. Most rack-mount equipment chassis
have a clearly labeled grounding point on it. Connect a safety ground cable (a green,
with yellow stripe wire, sized in accordance with the source breaker - typically 14
gauge wire for a 15A breaker) from that point to the copper ground buss bar.
