PR&E
3x6 Headphone Distribution Amp
The Harris Broadcast PR&E 3x6 Headphone (H/P) amp (PRE99-1215), originally designed for the BMXdigital
console, can also be used with NetWave console to create a H/P system for a talk studio with up to five
guest positions and a host position, which can control the studio speakers’ level. The H/P amp has six
outputs, typically set for one host and five guests. But, in this example application, it is set for one host, four
guests, and a “co-host” position that is used as a separate feed for the studio monitor speakers. Each 3x6
H/P amp output is an RJ-45 connector that uses standard CAT-5 cabling to connect the cabinet-mounted
Harris Broadcast PR&E H/P panels. The CAT-5 cable carries stereo audio and the level control signal for that
output’s H/P amp.
Figure 6-6 shows how the 3x6 H/P Amp can be used with the NetWave. The three inputs on the H/P amp
are: Host, Co-Host, and Guest. These connect to the NetWave console’s studio outputs: Host H/P, Monitor,
and Guest H/P, respectively. Setting the switches as shown gives these results:
●
The Studio Host H/P audio goes to output 1, which goes to the Host’s H/P jack panel.
●
The Studio Monitor audio goes to output 2, which goes to the Studio monitor speaker jack panel.
●
The Studio Guest H/P audio goes to outputs 3-6, which go to four Guest H/P panels with level pots.

Mount two Fader panels (PRE99-1191) in a Dual Cabinet Plate as shown or in a Host turret to give the host
control over both his/her headphone level and the level of the studio monitor speakers. The studio
speakers/amplifier connects to a PRE99-1214-1 headphone panel’s TRS jack, allowing the output level to be
controlled by the Monitor fader panel. Guests plug their headphones into PRE99-1214-3 H/P jack panels with
volume pot so they can control their own levels.
