Fluid Detector
The centrifuge well is equipped with an electronic fluid detection system
designed to detect the presence of liquid. The detector is mounted on the wall
of the centrifuge well. The safety system automatically stops the centrifuge and
the pumps if there is contact between liquid of any sort and the fluid detector.

The +10 VDC fluid sensor signal is isolated by a resistor, buffered, and read
through an I/O port on the CPU card (see
).
Line Sensor
The line sensor is an optical device that is mounted on the top deck of the
device next to the centrifuge (see
).
During a deglycerolization procedure, the effluent tubing that is connected to
the bowl exit port is inserted in the line sensor groove. The line sensor monitors
the effluent and helps to estimate the free hemoglobin level.
Although the device prints out the estimated free hemoglobin level, the final
decision that the free hemoglobin level is acceptable follows the site’s own
SOP. The user’s decision and his/her initials are documented on the
deglycerolization summary printout.
The line sensor has the capability to characterize the free hemoglobin level to
be below 50 mg%, between 50 and 100 mg%, between 100 and 150 mg%, or
more than 150 mg%.
During a deglycerolization procedure, after the disposable set is loaded, the
device requests a calibration check of the line sensor to ensure that the light
optic sensor within the line sensor functions properly and provides read-out
within these specified ranges. If the line sensor is found to be out of calibration,
the device stops all activities and requests the user to contact Haemonetics for
repair.
