Clean the instrument

Clean the exterior of the instrument with a moist cloth and a mild soap solution and then wipe the
instrument dry as necessary.

Replace the reference electrode

To increase the life of the reference electrodes, replace the installed reference electrode with one of
the other reference electrodes each day. Alternate between the three reference electrodes supplied
so they are used for the same amount of time.

Items to collect:

• Storage vial for reference electrodes with 3 M NaCl solution
• Squeeze bottle with deionized water

1.

Set the CELL MODE knob to STBY.

2.

Set the POWER switch of the potentiostat to OFF.

3.

Disconnect the white female connector from the reference electrode.

4.

Remove the reference electrode from the flow cell. Turn the reference electrode holder to remove
the reference electrode from the flow cell.

5.

Remove the reference electrode from the reference electrode holder.

6.

Rinse the reference electrode with deionized water.

7.

Put the reference electrode in the storage vial. Refer to

Condition the reference electrodes

on page 11.
Make sure that the glass part of the reference electrode is fully in the 3 M NaCl solution.

8.

If the O-ring for the reference electrode is not in the reference electrode hole, put an O-ring on the
reference electrode to be installed.

9.

Do steps

 of

Remove bubbles from the system

 on page 19.

10.

Connect the white female connector to the reference electrode.

11.

Close the amperometric detector enclosure.

12.

Set the POWER switch of the potentiostat to ON.

13.

Set the DISPLAY knob to OFFSET nA.

14.

If the display does not show approximately “0.00” or "00.0" (0 nA), configure the potentiostat.
Refer to

Configure the potentiostat

 on page 22.

Clean the working electrode

Clean the working electrode when there is a slow decrease in the electrode response and the peaks
of interest cannot be identified. Refer to

Figure 11

for an example of a slow decrease in the electrode

response. Clean the working electrode to remove unwanted material that has collected on the
working electrode.

Items to collect:

• Squeeze bottle with methanol or ethanol
• Lint-free cloth

1.

Set the CELL MODE knob to STBY.

2.

Set the POWER switch of the potentiostat to OFF.

3.

Disconnect the black wire from the working electrode jumper.

4.

Remove the working electrode from the flow cell. Refer to

Figure 5

 on page 10.

5.

Use a lint-free cloth soaked with methanol (or ethanol) to gently clean the front surface of the
working electrode.

Note: The front surface of the working electrode touches the cell gasket when installed.
