1. PRE-INSTALLATION CHECK LIST
Before beginning installation procedures, the following checks
should be made. They are important for successful installation
of the replacement cartridge.
Be sure that the proper kit is used, refer to Table 1.
If the circulator to be repaired has suffered water damage to
the stator it can not be repaired and must be replaced.
If the terminal strip or capacitor are damaged or have failed,
they must be replaced with the proper replacement kit or
entire pump.
2. SHOCK HAZARD
Switch off the electrical power supply to the
pump. WARNING: Never make any connections
in the pump terminal box unless the electrical
supply has been switched off.
3. PUMP ISOLATION
Isolate the pump from the water pipe by closing valves
immediately upstream and downstream of the pump, or by
draining the immediate piping system.
CAUTION
:
The water in the pump may be scalding hot. A
means to contain the water released while disassembling the
pump should be provided to prevent water damage and
staining. Ensure that water does not enter the terminal box.
4. PUMP DISASSEMBLY
a. Remove the four (4) Allen screws (4 or 5 mm wrench).
b. Carefully separate the stator from the pump housing
(volute).
c. For all circulators except the BRUTE UP 15 - 42: Insert a large
flat blade screw driver or suitable punch into the screw in the
middle of the nameplate (see figure 1) and gently tap until the
entire cartridge canister assembly, complete with rotor and
impeller, is free to be removed. Do not attempt to pry out the
cartridge at the stator / volute mating joint.
For the BRUTE UP 15 - 42 :
Remove the nameplate by gently prying off at the edges.
Follow directions for item c. above.
d. Remove gasket from inside stator.
e. Inspect the exposed inside of the stator housing. If there are
signs of corrosion or water damage then the pump cannot be
repaired.
5. CARTRIDGE INSTALLATION
a. Insert replacement gasket into stator housing.
b. Insert the replacement cartridge into the stator housing.
Check that the motor shaft turns freely. For the Brute
UP 15 - 42 only, line up and snap the nameplate back
into position.
c. Replace the Allen screws and tighten diagonally and
evenly (7 ft. - lb. torque).
6. RETURN SYSTEM TO NORMAL
OPERATION
a. Open isolating valves and / or fill piping system with water.
DO
NOT START THE PUMP UNTIL THE SYSTEM HAS BEEN
FILLED.
b. Restore power to the pump and ensure that it operates quietly.
