RS-485 Line Header
The RS-485 Line Header is used for when RS-485 controller communication is
required. The Line Header is connected to the IP network and allows communication
for up to 6 controllers (multi or single controllers) on an RS-485 line. Please note
that all RS-485 only controllers must first be configured via IP. Also note that no
blades are supported by the Line Header.
The Line Header can be used with different power options: PoE, PoE+ or one of a
number of supported 12V external power supplies, please do not use mains power
and PoE or PoE+ together as the Line Header will use the first available power supply
it finds when powering up, for example if PoE and external mains the PoE will be
seen first and the external mains ignored. Disable PoE on the switch if not required. In
addition, an optional 4.2V lithium polymer battery can provide backup for all connected
equipment during power outages.
When selecting the most suitable power supply, calculate:
The total power consumption of the controller itself, its components and the Blade
fitted. This will include:
▪
Controller quiescent power – 3W, max 250mA
▪
Battery charging power – up to 2W, max 167mA (when battery depleted)
The total power requirements are as below.
