Feed Rate
Feed rate is the speed the tool travels during the
operation and is expressed in inches of carriage
travel per revolution of the spindle (IPR), and is
set by configuring the change gears and feed rate
dials.
The correct feed rate is determined by the
workpiece material, the type of tooling used, and
the desired finish. The table in
Figure 52 shows
the recommended feed rate for turning most met-
als.
