When making an wing level adjustment, it
may be necessary to adjust the side gauge
wheel. See “
Gauge Wheel Stop
Pinch Point, Crushing, and Moving Hazards
Moving parts can pinch or crush causing
serious injuries. Use care and caution when
making adjustments in this area.
Planter Damage Risk
All four gauge wheels must be set in the same
gauge wheel stop position, either all upper or
all lower, or machine damage can occur.
The gauge wheels will come preset from the factory
in the upper gauge wheel stop position (A). Adjusting
the gauge wheel stop will allow for up to an
additional 100 lbs (45 kg) of down pressure to be
added to the gauge wheel assembly. Making the
adjustment can help improve traction in the field,
removing tire slippage, and allowing for improved
seeding precision some soil conditions. If it is your
preference you may add additional down force to
your gauge wheels by adjusting the gauge wheels to
the lower gauge wheel stop position (B). It is
necessary to have all four gauge wheels set at the
same gauge wheel stop position.
To adjust gauge wheel stop position:
1. Begin from left side of the planter, loosen the bolt
(1) and 2 sleeve mounts (2) and remove. Set
aside.
2. On the opposite side of the gauge wheel, loosen
the bolt and 2 sleeve mounts and remove.
3. Slide the 2 sleeve mounts into the upper or lower
position on each side.
4. From the inside of the gauge wheel stop, shift the
spring pivot weldment to the upper or lower
position.
5. Secure the bolts into the upper or lower position
on each side. Tighten to torque.
6. Repeat for each gauge wheel assembly.
Gauge Wheel Spring Linkage
Adjusting the gauge wheel spring linkage on each
gauge wheel will help fine tune planter leveling for
seeding accuracy. This adjustment needs to be
made only after the wing lock pins are installed on
the toolbar coupling, and center frame leveling left-to-
right, center frame leveling front-to-back, and wing
leveling have been completed. Ensure that each
gauge wheel block mount is set for the same hole,
upper or lower. It is important to ensure tires are
properly inflated before making any adjustments.
1. Pull the planter forward slowly, and lower the
planter to 26 in (66 cm).
2. Beginning on the left side of the planter, from the
underside of the gauge wheel measure from the
toolbar to the ground (A). It should be 26 in (66
cm).
