3.9 PATIENT TRANSFER
INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING: PERSONAL INJURY HAZARD:
WARNING: The VIC429 Video Imaging
Chair has a maximum patient weight
capacity of 147 kg (324 lb), EVENLY
DISTRIBUTED.
WARNING: The VIC is not intended to
replace a stretcher or gurney.
WARNING: Do not sit on end - as tipping
may occur.
WARNING: Do not stand on footrest - as
tipping may occur.
WARNING: When the VIC is not in use, do
not leave it in a recline position.
WARNING: When patient is seated in the
chair, ensure the side rails are up and
the patient is secured with patient safety
straps.
WARNING: Patient entry, egress and
transfer from the chair should always
be from the center side rail location with
the side rail in the down position and the
brakes locked.
WARNING: At no time should the patient
be permitted to enter or exit from the
ends of the VIC when in partial or total
recline position.
WARNING: When transporting patient, the
patient should be placed in a fully upright
position with chair in low height. The
patient should never be transported when
the VIC is in a recline position.
WARNING: The brakes should always
be applied when patient is not being
transported.
WARNING: When chair is in nontransport
mode, patient must remain fully upright;
patient must never be reclined; patient
must never be left unattended.

Transfer Side Terms
Secondary Patient Device:
The transfer side
will always be located on the
attendant’s
right
side when standing at the patient’s foot end
facing the patient.
VIC:
The transfer side will always be located
on the
patient’s
right side.
Transfer of patient from VIC to a Secondary
Device
Patient Preparation
Leave patient secured with restraint straps
until actual patient transfer is to begin.
Secondary Device Preparation
1. Lock the secondary device caster brakes.
2. Place secondary device in lowest vertical
position.
3. Level patient surface to a horizontal plane.
4. Lower patient rail on transfer side of
secondary device.
VIC Preparation
1. Ensure VIC is in transport mode (see
Section 3-8).
2. Adjust VIC height so the seat section is
level with patient surface of secondary
device.
3. Lower the patient side rail on VIC’s transfer
side.
4. Move the VIC so that both devices are
facing each another on the specified
transfer sides.
5. Recline the VIC to horizontal plane.
6. Maneuver VIC so that the transfer sides of
the two devices are making contact (limit
transfer gap as much as possible).
7. Lock the VIC caster brakes.
