modifier characters (such as P, W, T, and S as used in the following examples).

Automatic Call Initiation in Response to DTR
The AT commands

instruct the modem to observe the state of the DTR interface
lead in order to automatically initiate a call, using the number stored in memory cell

the modem dials automatically only when an

transition is detected
on the DTR lead.

, when the modem is not connected to a remote modem and DTR lead is

modem automatically re-dials to restore a broken connection without intervention by the DTE.

Dial command instructs modem to dial.

Instructs modem to use pulse dialing.
