Replacing the system board
To replace the system board:

Remove the side panel by following the instructions in
.

Remove the bezel by following the instructions in
“Removing the front bezel” on page 124
.

For more stability, place your computer on its side. To avoid scratching the case, place it
on a towel or other non-abrasive surface.

Disconnect any cables that are attached to any expansion cards, noting their locations and
orientation. (You will reconnect the cables after you reinstall the cards on the new board.)

Open the card retention lever.

Remove any expansion cards. You can slightly seesaw the card end-to-end to loosen it,
but do not bend the card sideways. See
“Replacing an expansion card” on page 130
Tools
You need a Phillips screwdriver to replace the system board.
Caution
Be careful not to pull or damage the hard drive power and data cables when
you remove the metal reinforcing beam/hard drive assembly.
