1
Blinking
Note: When first powering up, this light
may blink 2-3 times, which is normal
•
DS-64NC module not connected
•
Clock not received from DS-64NC module
•
Improper code in Complex Programmable Logic Device
(CPLD)
2
On steady
•
Hardware assembly problem
•
CPLD is not programmed
•
Mapper and physical ID are somehow at “0”
A.4.2
MA-428 Troubleshooting
Use Table A-13 to troubleshoot any problems you encounter during MA-428 module adapter
installation or operation.
Table A-13. Troubleshooting Possible Problems and Solutions
Problem
Possible Solution
Auto-negotiation
mode is not working
Check that both the module adapter (MA) and computer are set to auto-negotiation mode.
Check that the MA and the computer are connected with a straight or cross cable.
Forced mode is not
working
Check that the MA and the computer are connected with a cross cable (Table A-8). Forced
mode does not work with a straight cable connection.
Check that the MA and the computer are set to Forced mode.
Disable and enable the LAN port on the computer.
Restart the computer.
Try connecting to another computer.
Reconfigure the computer and the MA and then restart the MA.
Link light is blinking
continuously
Check that the cable is connected properly.
Check that the MA and the computer are in correct modes (Table A-14).
Restart the computer and the MA.
Try connecting the MA to a different computer.
Data loss due to
unmatched mode
Check that both the MA and the computer are in the same mode (auto-negotiation or
forced). Valid Link is the preferred mode combination. Table A-14 gives more details.
Some Ethernet
frames do not pass
Check that APST (automatic pad stripping) switch is OFF. When it is ON, Ethernet frames
with length field zero do not pass.
Some application
layer protocols do
not work
Check that the DBS (disable broadcast frame) switch is OFF. When it is ON, application
layer protocols such as Remote Desktop connotation and IP Messenger do not work.
Test light does not
blink
Either the multi-point control unit (MCU) on the module is not programmed or the board is
faulty. (The rapidity of blinking varies with the mode of operation.)
Note: Pad bytes are stripped if the length field in the frame is less than the minimum frame size.
Table A-14 gives all possible auto-negotiation/forced mode combinations. Valid Link is the preferred
mode combinations. Modes such as Unstable Link, No Link, and False Link are not preferred, even
though there appears to be a link.
