HOSE ASSEMBLY PREPARATION
CAUTION:
A New hose and end fittings (stem/ferrule) must be used when building a hose assembly. Re-using any
component will seriously affect performance and could result in serious injury or property damage.
TWO-PIECE COUPLINGS
Cut Hose to desired length.
Using Gates Crimp Data Manual # 35019 (Ind),
428-7365 (Auto) select the correct stem and ferrule
or, log onto www.gates.com/ecrimp for the latest crimp
information on-line.
Place the ferrule over the end of the hose. If skiving is
required, see instructions in Gates Hand Skiver manual
# 35019-W.
Lubricate the first two or three serrations on the stem
with lightweight oil (SAE 10W).
Clamp the stem in the vise on hex portion, and push the
hose onto the stem. The hose should be flush against
the stem shoulder. (See cutaway drawing).
Push the ferrule so it rests against hex of stem.
The hose and coupling are now ready for crimping.

PRE-ASSEMBLED COUPLINGS
Cut the Hose to the desired length.
Using Gates Crimp Data Manual #3509 (Ind),
428-7365 (Auto)select the correct MegaCrimp
®
coupling. or, log onto www.gates.com/ecrimp for
the latest crimp information on-line.
Place a visible mark on the hose cover at the
insertion length shown in the crimp data manual.
Insert the coupling into the hose until the mark lines
up with the end of the coupling ferrule.
The hose and coupling are now ready for crimping.
