Connecting multiple systems
How a BUS works
With the CAN-BUS system, it is possible to connect several systems parallel with one another
using data cables.
The systems can then communicate digitally with one another, whereby it will be possible to
operate each motor from each desired position on the BUS. This also makes it possible to
operate several systems at the same time, i.e. in groups. It is easy to program these groups with
the IR remote control transmitter by having a group of systems react to the same IR channel.
BUS conditions
The BUS must satisfy certain conditions as digital communication takes place between the
systems:
> A maximum of 32 systems can be connected to a CAN BUS system. with a combined maximum
cable length of 100 m.
> If several systems or longer cables are to be connected, so-called repeaters (G-Rail code 6036-
BUS-2001) should be used. This makes it theoretically possible to create a BUS system with over
100 systems with as many controls.
> For the BUS system to work efficiently, it is necessary to use the correct cable and to always
program it first and last as an “end system”.
Number of systems
The maximum number of system that can be coupled and operated via the
CAN BUS is 32.
Length of cables
The maximum total length of cables that form the BUS is 100 m. The motor-units
are inter-connected via 4-core data cables (6034-AC2) and RJ45 connectors
(6032-RJ45 or 6032-RJ45-DIY) (lead type A, chapter B4).
Repeaters
This maximum cable length and the number of systems can be increased by
integrating repeater units (G-Rail code 6036-BUS-2001).
End systems
Before connecting multiple motor-units by BUS CABLE, the first and the last
motor-unit have to be set as ‘end-motor’. As standard, in single motor-units
systems like 6200 and 6300 this end motor setting is switched off. On the
contrary, in 6200 Tandem motor-units the end motor setting is switched on.
Using the infrared transmitter, the paddle switch or RF transmitter, the end motor
setting can be switched on or off (see next paragraph).
