5. CALIBRATION

8. The installation of the standard sphere is correct
when the three fishing lines are stretched to an
equal length and have even tension. The distance
from the hull (transducer) to the standard sphere
shall be 15-20 m where the water depth allows.
Note:
The farther the distance from the transducer to
the calibration, the easier it will be to do the calibration.
However, if the distance is too great, the standard
sphere may land on the seabed. Therefore, ideally,
the sphere should be at least 5-10 m from the seabed.

Calibration procedure
Note 1:
The calibration cannot be performed when auto range and/or auto shift is ac-
tive. Set "Auto" in the "Range" menu to "Off".
Note 2:
Calibration can also be performed using recorded echo data.
1. Use the split-beam display or the split beam/zoom display.
2. On the InstantAccess bar
™
, click the Sounder icon ( ) then the Calibration
Range icon (
). The color of the Calibration Range icon changes to green, and
the calibration range appears on the split-beam display.
3. Adjust the range and gain to show the echo from the standard sphere on the
screen.
Display example: Two standard spheres used
4. Adjust the calibration range marker so that only the echo from the standard sphere
is displayed within the calibration range.
The calibration value is calculated from the difference between the TS value of the
standard sphere detected within this range and the theoretical value. The calibra-
tion range can be adjusted in the following ways.
• To change the calibration start depth, drag and drop the calibration start depth
marker up and down.
• To change the calibration end depth, drag and drop the calibration end depth
marker up or down.
• To move the calibration range up and down, drag and drop the calibration range
within the calibration start depth and calibration end depth.
