How to set the standard sphere
Follow the procedure below to set the standard sphere.
1. With the rope under the ship’s hull, drop the anchor.
2. Attach the fishing line to the end of the rope on the side where only one fishing rod
is placed (see the figure on page 5-3, #1 fishing rod). Pull the rope from the other
side so the fishing line crosses the bow. To ensure that the fishing line flows freely,
check that the drag on the fishing rod is off.
Note:
The reason the rope is crossed from the side where only one fishing rod is
placed is to prevent tension from being applied to the standard sphere (and the
weight in some cases) when the sphere is suspended.
CAUTION
Handle the standard sphere with care, keeping in mind the following
points.
•
Do not drop the sphere.
Bodily injury or damage to the sphere and ship can result.
•
Do not swing the rod attached to the sphere.
Bodily injury or damage to the sphere and ship can result if the
line breaks.
•
Do not coat the sphere with oil nor allow it to rust or become soiled
.
Oil, rust or foreign material on the sphere may affect measurement
accuracy.
