The ComPoint in the AC Mode
5-13
•
Network Name
The Network Name (also called SSID) is an unambiguous network-
name. It serves to logically assign clients. Make sure that all subscrib-
ers of a wireless network use the same network name. Capital and
lower case writing must be observed. As a maximum, the network
name may consist of 32 alphanumerical characters. If the ComPoint
is operated in AC mode, no network name is factory-set. The AC will
therefore try to log on to any available access point, irrespective of its
network name. This setting is also called “ANY”.
•
Country
This setting is only relevant if the ComPoint AC is to be operated in
ad-hoc mode. For the operation of the access client, country-specific
regulations referring to the selectable channels have to be observed.
Specify the country or region where the device is to be operated.
•
802.11d Conformance
The IEEE 802.11d Standard regulates the technical differences in
individual countries and regions. This includes, among others, the
number and selection of the channels released for use in wireless net-
works in a country.
Specify the degree to which the ComPoint AC is supposed to adhere
to 802.11d.
• none: The ComPoint does not take into account which channels
are suggested by the access point.
• strict: The ComPoint does not send itself but waits for information
from the access point regarding the channels to be used. The
ComPoint therefore uses exactly those channels defined by the
access point.
• flexible: The ComPoint merely sends search commands for avail-
able access points on any channel. It uses the channels defined by
the access point for data transmission, however.
•
Channel
This setting is only relevant if the ComPoint AC is to be operated in
ad-hoc mode. In this case, select the channel in which the ad-hoc net-
work operates. If required, set the other subscribers of the ad-hoc net-
work to the same channel. If you wish to use channels 12 and 13,
please make sure beforehand that the corresponding clients do sup-
port these channels and that the correct regulatory domain has been
selected. Products which may also be operated in the U.S.A. (e.g. our
USB adapter), may not support channels 12 and 13, since only chan-
nels 1 to 11 are permitted there.
