CHAPTER 1 Features
1.2
High Reliability and Availability
The following features help ensure high reliability for the main unit:
l
The power supply unit and fan unit have redundant configurations.
l
Disk-mirroring and the dual RAID controller enable redundant data storage. (The
main unit enables this function when the PRIMECLUSTER GDS and multiple
path disk control package are combined.)
l
Power-on diagnostics recognize and halt faulty components before starting
operations.
l
The system is capable of correcting errors automatically (e.g., the memory ECC);
ensuring more stable operation.
l
Important components are hot swappable (e.g., power supply unit, fan tray, disk
unit, PCI card, System board). These components can be replaced without stopping
the system. (For hot replacement of the system board, the DR function is used). In
addition, faulty CPUs and memory are hot swappable. For replacement,
components must be disconnected and installed in units of system boards.
l
Each partition is protected, and errors are isolated to single partition, helping to
assure application reliability.
1.3
Expanded Maintenance and Operational Functions
The equipment maintenance feature of the main unit prevents occurrence of fault
events by monitoring the system and notifying users of eventual faults ahead of time.
In addition, the life control feature monitors the life of consumable components. The
notification feature reports various information through the SMC. The SMC displays
guidance for maintenance and inspection activities, including hot swapping. This
helps prevent user errors.
l
If any fault is detected in power-on diagnosis, the SMC sends an e-mail message to
the administrator and service personnel in charge.
l
The SMC information collection feature permits accurate identification of faulty
components.
