Glossary
CA Call appearance of a telephone number.
Call button A button available for a voice call.
CFD/CFB Call forwards incoming calls to a pre-assigned destination
number when you “don’t answer” or when your line is “busy”;
set up at service subscription .
CFV/CFU Call forwards incoming calls to a number you select; activated
by user when needed.
CNI Provides the incoming calling line number if available.
Conference Allow user to make conference call if subscribed.
DHCP Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. A protocol which allows
a server to dynamically assign IP addresses to workstations.
Diffserv Differentiated Services (DiffServ or DS) is a protocol for specifying
and controlling network traffic by class so that certain types of
traffic get precedence.
DN Directory Number
G.711 An international standard encoding/decoding audio.
G.729 An international standard for encoding/decoding audio.
Gateway An entrance and exit into a communications network.
Hold Allows the user to place an active call on “hold”.
IP Internet Protocol. A DOD standard protocol designed for use
in interconnected systems of packet-switched computer
communication networks.
Jitter Buffer Packet delivery and disposition management.
LAN Local Area Network. A geographically localized network
consisting of both hardware and software.
MAC Media Access Control is an address that controls access to the
shared medium by LAN-attached devices.
MSG Message waiting in voice mail.
