Notes on handling
-
Do not stack tape cartridges high because they may be damaged by falling (stack
volumes up to six high). If a tape cartridge is mistakenly damaged by falling,
perform data migration immediately after data recovery and then discard the
damaged tape cartridge.
-
The support track is written into the LTO Ultrium 1 tape cartridge in advance and
correct read/write operations are performed based on this information. Though it is
possible to delete data using a special device (1200 oersted or more) for the purpose
of ensuring data security, the tape whose data has been deleted cannot be reused
because the support track has also been deleted.
-
Adhesive constituents of binder in the tape may melt and adhere to the magnetic
head, corroding the MR elements in the head and causing read/write errors. This
results from chemical deterioration of the tape and has nothing to do with the number
of times of using the tape. Thus, this problem cannot be resolved by cleaning the
tape. Because those constituents tend to melt with the increasing temperature and
humidity at which the tape cartridge is stored, sufficient attention needs to be paid to
the storage environment conditions. Dispose of tapes with the head to which those
constituents adhere.
7.3.4
Notes on the reader pin
-
Before inserting into the device, make sure that the reader pin is on the tape
cartridge. If the reader pin has been detached from a recorded tape, attaching the
reader pin to the tape can make the tape reusable. However, only the first 30 cm
from the tape tip can be restored.
-
When loading the tape, make sure that the reader pin is securely latched.
-
Because the tape cartridge is a precision-made product, do not apply unreasonable
force or pull out the reader pin and tape. Do not push or rotate the reel.
7.3.5
Notes on label affixing
Affix highly adhesive labels to the tape. Labels that come off inside the device may
cause device failures. Use labels supplied with the tape or genuine labels sold by Fujitsu
CoWorCo.
