Locating the Mounting Position
The ETERNUS CS800 S6 system is designed to fit in a standard 19" wide rack. It is
important for the chassis installation to locate the hole pattern in the rack rails. You must
allow 2 HU (3.5") of vertical space for the server module and 2 HU (3.5") of vertical space
for each storage module installed in the rack.
WARNING!
If the rack is empty at the time of installation, do NOT install the ETERNUS CS800 S6
components too high in the rack. The weight of the components may cause the rack
to become "top heavy" and unstable if installed in the top of an empty rack.
CAUTION!
The storage expansion modules (ETERNUS DX100 S3 resp. ETERNUS JX40 S2) are
preconfigured in the factory and labeled with identifiers. The sequence of these
identifiers must be observed precisely when they are mounted and connected to each
other. Otherwise the system will not work and might get damaged.
The labels with the numbers assigned in the factory are affixed at the right flange of
the front side and at the ID card on top of the cover as described in figure below.

The ETERNUS CS800 S6 Entry model without the JX40 S2 option can be mounted to any free
2HU space in the rack (like any other server).
With the other models, which are either already delivered with additional storage
components or at least have the option of an appropriate expansion later on, it is
recommended to position the different components of the system in the following order:
Entry with JX40 S2 Option
The server has to be mounted either immediately above or under the optional JX40 S2
storage module. If the system is initially used without JX40 S2, it might be useful to
