Point of the splice procedure
• Check the fiber angle and cleave shape. The fiber cleave angle affects splicing quality.
Large cleave angle worsens splice loss.
•Visually check the arc discharge with the monitor. In case the arc discharge is observed
“wobbling” or “brightness changes”, arc discharge may be unstable and the heat
distribution to the fibers as well resulting in worsened splice loss. Perform “Stabilize
Electrodes”
•When splicer indicates following message, splice loss may be high.
“Arc discharge is not stable. Electrodes should be stabilized to reform the arc
discharge.”
Load prepared SM fibers onto splicer in order to stablize electrodes. After
completeing it, re-splice fibers.
