21. Troubleshooting Failures of New IP

Characteristic of Error
- An error occurs only on a new IP of large width size (35x35 (cm)/14x14 (inch)) or
half width (35x43 (cm)/14x17 (inch)). No error occurs on IPs of other sizes.
- An error occurs during “read” or “erasure” but not during “secondary erasure”.

Phenomenon of Error

Location of error
The error occurs on the portion on the HR rubber guide of the side positioning
conveyer unit shown below.

Error pattern 1
The tip of the IP gets caught in the HR rubber guide and the IP cannot be conveyed.
Turn OFF the RU power supply and then turn it ON after the error occurs. The grip is
released, allowing the IP to be conveyed and ejected into the cassette.

Error pattern 2
The tip of the IP gets caught in the HR rubber guide, and the IP cannot reach SC3 (side
positioning IP sensor), resulting in a timeout error.

Action
Apply the tape (384N0103) to the guide of the side positioning conveyer unit, to
prevent the tip of the IP from getting caught in the HR rubber guide.
Refer to the MC volume “7.31 Tape” for detailed procedures for applying the tape.

REFERENCES
- When the machine is to be used without the tape applied, convey a new IP
approximately 20 times for “secondary erasure”. A curl is made on the tip of the IP,
so that the tip does not get caught in the HR rubber guide.
- The tip of the IP is not likely to get caught in the HR rubber guide when the IP is
conveyed for “secondary erasure”. This is because controlling methods of the side
positioning conveyer unit differ between the case when the IP is conveyed for “read”
or “erasure” and for “secondary erasure”.
