VYPER
™
VARIABLE SPEED DRIVE
OPERATION

Step 3:
Locate the trim pot on the Vyper
™
Logic board. The
trim pot is a rectangular blue component in the central area
of the board. See Callout 1 in Figure 68.

Step 4:
Advance to the Vyper
™
Screen by pressing the
[
MENU
] key and then selecting “
Setpoints
” and “
Operating
Values
” using the down cursor arrow key. Select “
Vyper
” from
the pull-down menu and press the [
Enter
] key. Locate “Job
FLA” on the Vyper Screen. See Callout 1 in Figure 69.

Step 5:
Use a flat-blade screwdriver to adjust the trim pot
until the “Job FLA” field on the Vyper
™
Screen reads the
Job FLA Value determined in Step 2. Turning the trim pot
clockwise will increase the FLA reading; turning the trim pot
counterclockwise will decrease the FLA reading.
Step 6:
Close the door for the Vyper
™
cabinet and secure
using the latches on the side of the cabinet.
NOTE: If Logic Board is replaced, the Job FLA must be
reset to the proper value using the Job FLA Trim Pot.
MOTOR ROTATION
Before operating the Vyper
™
Drive,
remove the coupling center and verify
proper compressor motor rotation.
Damage to the motor will occur if the motor leads are not
connected properly.
Verify the compressor motor rotates in the proper direction
by removing the coupling center and initiating a system start.
If the motor rotates in the wrong direction, the check motor
leads for proper connections.
Installation and operational setup of the Vyper
™
Drive is now
complete and ready for operation.
In addition to the eight DIP switches on SW3, jumper JP3
must be installed in order for Vyper
™
control to be set at
‘Refrigeration’ mode. Refer to callout 1 on Figure 67 for the
location of JP3 on the logic board.

There is also a dipswitch to select 60Hz or 50Hz, depending
on the application. Ensure that it is properly set. See callout
2 on Figure 67.
SETTING THE JOB FLA
The final item for operational setup of the Vyper
™
is adjusting
the Job Full Load Amps (FLA) calibration via a trim pot on
the Vyper
™
Logic board.
The operator must perform a calculation to determine the Job
FLA and then adjust the trim pot on the logic board in order
to set the correct value for the Job FLA on the Quantum
™
LX
Vyper Screen.
In order to perform the calculation, the “Applied Motor FLA”
is required. The “Applied Motor FLA” was previously deter-
mined (Table 15) and is displayed on the Quantum
™
LX Motor
Screen. Use to following steps to set the Job FLA:
Step 1:
To complete the calculation, use Table 19, “Limit
Calculations”.
Limit Calculations
Line
Parameter
Value
1
Applied Motor FLA (Table 15)
2
Applied Service Factor
1.15
3
Multiply (Line 1 x Line 2)
4

If Line 4 is 700/572 HP, value is 880 A
If Line 4 is 912/752 HP, value is 1180 A
6

Table 19 – Limit Calculations
Step 2:
Referring to the calculations in Table 19, determine
which of the following applies:
•
If value of Line 3 is less than the value of Line 6, use
the value of Line 3 for the Job FLA.
•
If value of Line 3 is greater than value of Line 6, use the
respective value in Line 5 as the Job Full Load Amps.
