Verify Kit Contents
Verify that all kit contents are included.
a.) MSC8156EVM with attached plastic spacers and screws
b.) One CD with documentation files.
c.) AC/DC 12V/3.0A wall plug and adapters.
d.) Ethernet cable (1)
e.) USB cable Type A to Type B (1) USB
f.) ENEA software and documentation thumb drive
Default Settings
The board is shipped with default settings. For questions
about the settings, access the Hardware Getting Started
Guide on the enclosed CD. Verify the default settings for Switches
using Section 5 and Jumpers using Section 7.
Assemble the Power Supply
For standalone mode, assemble and connect the
12-V power supply using the following steps:
a.) Make sure that all power is turned off.
b.) Assemble the AC/DC power supply kit, as follows:
• Attach the power cable with the country specific wall
output plug for your area.
• Attach the cable with the plug for the
board connection.
c) Connect the AC/DC power supply cable to the 12 V (P2)
board jack.
d) Plug the power cable into the wall outlet.
e) Insert one end of the USB cable into J2, the board USB
socket. Insert the other cable end into the USB port on a PC.
Note:
In PCI Express
®
mode, power comes from the
connecting PCI Express board.
Power Up and Power Off
Perform the initial power up and check using the
following steps:
a.) Move the power switch (S1) to the ON position. After
the PORESET sequence completes; LDs 1 and 3 should
display a constant green light.
b.) Power the system off by moving the power switch (S1)
to the PCIe 12V position.

Note:
The instructions describe a basic inventory of the
EVM contents and mechanical setup for a standalone
system. Refer to the Hardware Getting Started Guide
and MSC8156EVM Reference Manual for other
configuration details.
