Managing the Cooling System
This section provides configuration, management, and monitoring information for the cooling system in a FastIron
X Series chassis device.
Configuring the Cooling System
The Foundry device provides default settings for all cooling system parameters. Therefore, no initial configuration
of the cooling system is necessary. If desired, you can change the settings of the following cooling system
parameters:
•
Low and high temperature thresholds for modules and fan speeds
•
Interval at which the system polls the temperature sensors on the module for a reading
•
Temperature at which the device will send a warning message (pre-03.0.00 software releases only)
•
Temperate at which the device will shut itself down
•
Fan speed
Thermal Planes
The FSX has two thermal planes:
•
Thermal Plane 1 (also called Rule 1/2) – This thermal plane includes the temperature sensors on the
management module only. The management module has two temperature sensors.
•
Thermal Plane 2 (also called Rule 2/2) – This thermal plane includes all of the temperature sensors on all of
the Interface modules. Each Interface module has one temperature sensor.
The FSX 800 and FSX 1600 have three thermal planes:
•
Thermal Plane 1 (also called Rule 1/3) – This thermal plane includes the temperature sensors on the
management module(s) only. Each management module has two temperature sensors.
•
Thermal Plane 2 (also called Rule 2/3) – This thermal plane includes all of the temperature sensors on all of
the Interface modules. Each Interface module has one temperature sensor.
•
Thermal Plane 3 (also called Rule 3/3) – This thermal plane includes all of the temperature sensors on the
switch fabric modules. Each switch fabric module has one temperature sensor.
Exhaust Side Temperature
Readings
This field applies to the FSX running software release 02.5.00 or earlier.
•
Current temperature – The current temperature reading on the
exhaust side of the chassis.
•
Warning level – The temperature at which the system will generate a
warning message.
•
Shutdown level – The high temperature threshold associated with the
high fan speed, at which the system will shut itself down.
Intake Side Temperature Readings
This field applies to the FSX running software release 02.5.00 or earlier.
Current temperature – The current temperature reading on the intake side
of the chassis.
Misc Info
Boot PROM MAC
The MAC address of the chassis.
