11. Visually inspect the alignment of the chassis. If the chassis is installed properly in the rack, all the mounting
screws on one side of the rack should be aligned with the mounting screws on the opposite side and the
chassis should be level.
Installing NetIron MLX-32 Modules
The NetIron MLX-32 ships with empty module slots, and upper and lower shipping panels installed.
WARNING:
The intra-building port(s) of the equipment or subassembly is suitable for connection to intra-building
or unexposed wiring or cabling only. The intra-building port(s) of the equipment or subassembly MUST NOT be
metallically connected to interfaces that connect to the outside plant (OSP) or its wiring. These interfaces are
designed for use as intra-building interfaces only (Type 2 or Type 4 ports as described in GR-1089-CORE, Issue 4)
and require isolation from the exposed OSP cabling. The addition of Primary Protectors is not sufficient protection
in order to connect these interfaces metallically to OSP wiring.
CAUTION:
If you do not install a module in a slot, you must leave the slot blank installed in the slot. If you run the
NetIron MLX-32 chassis with an uncovered slot, the system may overheat.
NOTE:
The NetIron MLX Series modules are dedicated, which means that you must install them in the NetIron
MLX Series chassis only. For example, if you attempt to install the NetIron MLX Series management module in
another Foundry chassis or a management module intended for another Foundry chassis in the NetIron MLX
Series chassis, the chassis and module will not function properly.
If you are installing a redundant management module, see the chapter titled “Using a Redundant Management
Module” in the "Foundry NetIron XMR/MLX Configuration Guide" for information about how the redundant module
works, optional software configurations that you can perform, and how to manage the redundancy feature.
Before installing a module in the NetIron MLX-32 chassis, have the following on hand:
•
An ESD wrist strap with a plug for connection to the ESD connector on the NetIron MLX-32 chassis.
WARNING:
For safety reasons, the ESD wrist strap should contain a 1 meg ohm series resistor.
•
A large flat-head screwdriver.
To install a module in the NetIron MLX-32 chassis, do the following:
1.
Put on the ESD wrist strap and ground yourself by inserting the plug into the ESD connector on the chassis
front.
2.
Remove the module from its packaging.
3.
Remove the two shipping panels by unscrewing the six captive screws holding each panel.
4.
With the ejectors in the outward position, insert the module into the appropriate chassis slot and slide the card
along the card guide until the ejectors on either side of the module move close to the module front panel. See
special instructions, “NetIron MLX-32 Cable Management” on page 3-36.
NOTE:
When inserting the module into the chassis, make sure that the faceplate doesn’t overlap with the
faceplate of an adjacent Interface module.
5.
Push the ejectors in until they are flush with the module front panel. This action will fully seat the module in
the backplane. Modules have a snug fit for maximum EMI protection.
