In the windscreen: vehicle

The vehicle
identification
number (chassis
number) can be read from outside through
a viewing window in the windscreen. The
viewing window is located at the side in the
bottom area of the windscreen. The vehicle
identification
number is also applied me-
chanically in the engine compartment on
the right side of the vehicle.
On some models and depending on the in-
stalled Infotainment system, the vehicle
identification
number can be displayed in
the Service menu or in the vehicle settings.
The vehicle
identification
number may also
be
specified
on the type plate.

On the B-pillar in the front door:

The type plate contains the following data:

Manufacturer.

EU Type Approval Number.

Vehicle
identification
number (VIN).

Gross vehicle weight rating
Gross combination weight rating.
Gross front axle weight rating
Gross rear axle weight rating

Engine code.

Manufacturers’ addresses.

Official
type designation.
Depending on country, the number of the
type approval, e.g. EC type approval num-
ber, may be
specified.
Depending on country and model, the type
plate is visible in the lower area of the door
pillar
after
opening the driver or front pas-
senger door. Vehicles for certain export
countries do not have a type plate.

certificate
may
be attached to the driver door pillar.
The safety
certificate
contains the follow-
ing information:
— Vehicle type.
— Manufacturer.
— Date of manufacture.
— Country of manufacture.
