model and equipment, it is not possible for
you to change LED light units or individual
LEDs yourself. Failure of individual LEDs
can be an indication that other LEDs may
fail. In this case, have the lights checked by
a suitably
qualified
workshop and replaced
if necessary.
A box with the replacement bulbs necessa-
ry for
traffic
safety should always be carried
in the vehicle. Replacement bulbs are avail-
able from a suitably
qualified
workshop. In
some countries it is a legal requirement to
carry these replacement bulbs.
Driving with failed exterior lighting bulbs
may be against the law.
Additional bulb specification
Some bulbs in the headlight or tail light
clusters may have certain factory
specifica-
tions
that deviate from conventional bulbs.
The designation is inscribed on the bulb, ei-
ther on the glass part or on the base.
WARNING
Accidents can be caused if the road is not
sufficiently
illuminated and if other road
users have
difficulty
seeing the vehicle, or
cannot see it at all.
WARNING
Accidents and serious injuries can be
caused if bulbs are not changed correctly.
·
Always read and observe the warnings
before performing any work in the en-
gine compartment
→
page 312. The en-
gine compartment of any vehicle is
a dangerous area. Serious injuries can
be sustained here.
·
Please note that halogen bulbs are
pressurised and can burst when a bulb
is changed.
·
Change the bulb in question only when
it has cooled down fully.
·
Never change bulbs unless you know
exactly how to do it. If you are uncertain
of what to do, have the work carried out
by a suitably
qualified
workshop.
·
Do not touch the glass part of the bulb
with your bare
fingers.
Fingerprints
left
on the bulb will evaporate due to heat
when the bulb is switched on and will
cause the
reflector
to become “blind”.
·
There are sharp-edged parts on the
headlight housing and on the housing
of the tail light cluster. Protect your
hands when changing bulbs.
NOTICE
If the rubber cover or plastic covers on the
headlight housing are not
fitted
correctly
after
changing a bulb, this can result in
damage to the electrical system – above
all due to ingress of water.
Information on changing bulbs

of the chapter on page 295.

the bulb would cause the
