Vehicles with Automatic Transmission
1.
Fully depress the brake pedal.
2. Shift into park (P) or neutral (N).
3. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and
hold it there.
4. Start the engine.
All Vehicles
If the engine does not start, repeat the cold
or hot engine procedure.
Engine Idle Speed after Starting
The speed at which the engine idles
immediately after starting minimizes
vehicle emissions and maximizes cabin
comfort and fuel economy.
The idle speed varies depending on certain
factors. These include vehicle component
and ambient temperatures as well as
electrical and climate system demands.
Failure to Start
Vehicles with Manual Transmission
If the engine does not crank when you full
depress the clutch pedal with the ignition
key in position

, follow this procedure:
1.
Fully depress both the clutch and brake
pedals.
2. Turn the key to position

until the
engine has started.
STARTING A DIESEL ENGINE
Cold or Hot Engine
All Vehicles
Note:
When the temperature is below
-15°C, you may need to crank the engine for
up to 10 seconds.
Note:
You can only operate the starter for
a limited period of time.
Note:
After a limited number of attempts
to start your engine, the system will not
allow you to try again until a period of time
has elapsed, for example 30 minutes.
Switch the ignition on and wait
until the glow plug indicator goes
off.
Vehicles With Manual Transmission
Note:
Do not touch the accelerator pedal.
Note:
Releasing the clutch pedal while the
engine is starting stops the engine from
cranking and returns to the ignition on
position.

to position park (P) or neutral (N).
2. Fully depress the brake pedal.
3. Start the engine.
