When you use a test limit that has a reflectance limit,
Hidden
events show a
FAIL
status if their reflectance exceeds the limit.
To see details for an event, such as limits for measurements and
the
SEGMENT ATTENUATION
coefficient, tap the event in the
table.
Table 17. Event Types in the Event Table
Event
Description
Reflection
A pulse of light reflected
back to the OTDR.
Reflections are caused by a connector, a tight
bend, a mechanical splice, or a crack in the
fiber. Reflective events can possibly be ghost
events. These are frequently smaller than
reflective events that are connectors.
If the reflection is not caused by a connector,
inspect the cable for tight bends or damage.
Use a visual fault locator to verify the fault.
OTDR Port
The connector on the
OTDR.
This event is the OTDR port on the tester. The
OTDR Port
event always shows
N/A
for loss
because backscatter measurements are not
available on both sides of the event.
For SmartLoop tests, the
OTDR Port
event for
Fiber B
is the near end of the loopback cord.
For the second part of a bi-directional test, the
OTDR Port
event for
Fiber A
is the near end of
the loopback cord. See Figures 184 on page
471 and 186 on page 477.
The tester does not give a
PASS
/
FAIL
status to
this event.
Launch
The end of the launch
cord.
Tail
The start of the tail cord.
The tester identifies these events if you
connected launch and tail cords and turned on
LAUNCH COMPENSATION
on the
TEST SETUP
screen. See “About Launch and Tail Cords for
OSP Links” on page 415.
