When a microburst position is selected, the button illuminates and the microburst boundary is displayed
in the Microburst Review. The upper graph is a plan view of the microburst and is shown in direct relation
to the current runway. If this runway has a localizer, it is drawn to scale. The lower graph is a profile
view of the microburst. If the current runway has a glideslope, it is drawn to scale. The touchdown zone
is also depicted on this graph.
At the right side of the overlay, select buttons for the approach and take-off runways are provided that
will position the microburst in lateral deviation and altitude. A data entry button is available to set the
MICROBURST INTENSITY. A CLEAR TRACK direct entry button is provided to clear a previous
aircraft track from the screen. To close the overlay select the RETURN direct entry button.

Using Microburst
The Microburst overlay provides programmed models that represent specific microburst incidents that
have occurred. Setting up most of the models is identical. The exception is the Dallas 1985 Delta 191
model. Procedures are provided in the following paragraphs for each type of model.
3.54.1.1.
Activating The Microburst Model
1) Access the Microburst page.
2) Confirm that the current airport runway and ident (the ident of the visual model) is the
airport at which the microburst is to occur.
3) Select the desired microburst direct entry button, located on the right side of the
microburst overlay. This selection positions the microburst model relative to the current
runway.
4) Review the MICROBURST INTENSITY data entry button. To change the model
intensity, perform the following:
a) Select the MICROBURST INTENSITY button.
b) Enter the desired intensity using the displayed keypad.
c) Select the ENTER button.
5) Select the START direct entry button to enable the model. The model triggers when the
aircraft reaches the Microburst trigger point.
6) To monitor aircraft movement through the model, observe the Microburst Review section
of the overlay.
7) To cancel or remove the microburst model, deselect the START direct entry button. The
button will clear and simulation will return to normal flight momentarily.
