Variable-speed belt drives designs
There are two common variable-speed belt drives designs:
•
Variable-speed belt drives with an adjustable center-to-center distance
•
Variable-speed belt drives with a fixed center-to-center distance
Variable-speed belt drives with an adjustable center-to-center distance
Variable-speed belt drives with adjustable center-to-center distance combine one
variable-pitch pulley with one fixed pulley, as Figure 32 shows. The variable-pitch
pulley is often mounted on a motor shaft but can also be mounted on the driven
shaft. An adjustable motor base permits varying the center-to-center distance
between the shafts.
